It’s the season of graduations, outdoor birthday parties, block parties and weddings, and Tanisha Jones, Grandmont Rosedale resident and owner of Come Bounce with Us Entertainment has just the thing to make your party a great one: bounce houses! Everyone knows bounce houses make any party something to jump up and down about. Tanisha has thrown a birthday party every year for her two kids and knows exactly just how much fun bounce houses are: “The kids have so much fun and they get to interact.” As a medical assistant bringing health screenings to community events such as health fairs, church events, markets and school field days in and around Detroit, Tanisha knows very well just how quickly bounce houses attract attention and kids. It was at these fairs that she started to get the idea that she just might start her own bounce house business, “and so,” says Tanisha, “I started to do the research.”

While Tanisha had plenty of experience as a medical assistance, she knew that she could use some guidance as a business owner and so she attended the training classes offered by ProsperUs Detroit which partners with community-based organizations like GRDC to provide entrepreneurial training programs for people who wanted to learn the skills necessary to start and operate a business. According to Tanisha, the training was very important: “ProsperUs is awesome,” she says. “I learned the steps of how business works, and I want to eventually take this business further.”

While working as a medical assistant at various health fairs and community events, Tanisha noticed that the needs of the attendees often went beyond what she could offer as a member of the medical community. In fact, Tanisha’s vision for her business includes a non-profit portion that would offer such things as free haircuts, backpacks and school supplies to kids returning to school. She would also love to throw holiday parties for families in need, and maybe even helping pregnant women with parenting classes baby showers. Clearly Tanisha’s goals are as kind-hearted as they are ambitious. But, she has a great team supporting her vision. The doctors at Henry Ford are, according to Tanisha, her “biggest cheerleaders.” Tanisha’s husband and son help out setting up the bounce houses and even Zenda the owner of I’m Bouncy, another neighborhood business that rents out bounce houses, has encouraged Tanisha. Tanisha feels especially grateful to Zenda for the guidance about the business Zenda has offered.  “Zenda tells me ‘There’s room for both of us!’ Now isn’t that generous?” says Tanisha.

For now, her first season, Tanisha’s Come Bounce with Us Entertainment is sticking with bounce houses. So far this year she has set up her houses at a baby shower, a UAW event, a few birthday parties, and a few school events. The future looks bright for Tanisha and her new business.
