With help from volunteers from the Ford Accelerated Action Day and Grandmont Rosedale residents, GRDC will be installing a rain garden on the south end of the parking lot at the North Rosedale Park Community House on June 5. The Michigan native plants will help alleviate parking lot water run-off and add beauty to the park and to our Northwest Detroit Farmers’ Market. The park is used throughout the year by baseball players, soccer players, walkers and joggers. The Farmers’ Market shoppers come to the parking lot on Thursdays from 4 – 8pm from June – October to shop for fresh produce and to enjoy each other’s company. This will be the second rain garden GRDC has installed in Grandmont Rosedale. The first, next to the GRDC offices, is as beautiful as it is effective at minimizing storm water run-off. Rain gardens protect water quality by reducing water run-off that commonly carries pollutants from streets, lawns, and parking lots into our streams and lakes.
