Volunteers Turn Out in Force for Detroit Partnership Day
Over 200 volunteers – including neighborhood residents and students from Wayne State University and the University of Michigan -- pitched in to clean-up 8 sites in the Grandmont Rosedale community on Saturday, March 23rd as part of an annual event known as Detroit Partnership Day. Clean up sites included the Grandmont Rosedale Community Garden, Northwest Detroit Farmers’ Market, Stoepel Park, Flintstone Park, the North Rosedale Park Community House and three streets including Grand River, Grandville, and the Southfield Service Drive.In total, volunteers served approximately 633 hours and collected 413 garbage bags of litter, 178 bags of yard waste, and 7 bags of recyclables and 10 cubic yards of bulk debris -- a tremendous accomplishment for one day’s work.Love Where You LiveThe day’s events served as the official kick off of the Love Where You Live campaign, an anti-litter program initiated by the Grandmont Rosedale Beautification Task Force. This ongoing campaign seeks to improve the appearance of our community by discouraging littering and sponsoring clean-up activities.
