Over 175 civic leaders, community leaders, philanthropists, business leaders, and residents were in attendance at the Community Connections breakfast on October 14th. This annual event is a celebration of GRDC’s recent accomplishments and an opportunity to say “thank you” to the many volunteers, partners, and supporters who make our work possible.

Grandmont Rosedale resident and WDET News Director Jerome Vaughn played the role of MC, and kicked off the event by sharing stories of his own involvement in the community as a long-time soccer coach. Keynote speaker Mayor Mike Duggan, spoke enthusiastically about GRDC’s efforts to “really make a difference in Grandmont Rosedale,” both in terms of stabilizing the housing market and attracting new businesses to the neighborhood. GRDC’s Executive Director Tom Goddeeris shared GRDC’s vision for the coming year, focusing on GRDC’s continued plans “to support small business development in Grandmont Rosedale and bring new businesses to the community.” Tom also stressed that much energy will be focused on establishing Grandmont Rosedale as Detroit’s largest Special Assessment District.

In the end, this event is about bringing our diverse stakeholders together for a true celebration of community. Guests enjoyed a delicious breakfast while they made connections with people from all over Detroit.   The Community Connections Breakfast is an annual event that is sure to draw an even larger crowd next year.
